Zero Prostate Cancer Run / Walk in Long Beach, CA
Western States HIFU, located in Los Alamitos, CA, is proud to be a major sponsor of the Zero Prostate Cancer Run/Walk on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Shoreline Aquatic Park in Long Beach, CA.
Dr. Robert Pugach, Medical Director of Western States HIFU and Pacific Coast Urology Medical Center, has devoted a large part of his career to diagnosing and treating men with prostate cancer. He understands the importance of getting the word out about prostate cancer and supporting causes such as the Zero Prostate Cancer Run/Walk.
“We now diagnose more than a quarter of a million new cases of prostate cancer every year and we have decreased the death toll from 50,000 men per year to 25,000. But, now, we’re seeing a significant increase in prostate cancer deaths because men are not being screened,” says Dr. Pugach. “This is a frightening and unacceptable statistic for a disease that can be effectively treated when diagnosed at an early stage,” continues Dr. Pugach.
For the past 11 years, Dr. Pugach has been focused on treating men with a remarkable minimally invasive treatment called High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU). This advanced procedure does not have the significant side effects of permanent urine leakage and erection problems (impotence) that older treatments like radical surgery or radiation can cause.
“Being able to offer my patients a treatment to cure their prostate cancer and maintain their quality of life is very important to me,” says Dr. Pugach.
